As we start to descend further into winter, we find ourselves hard pushed not to listen to the radio and hear a heated (if you will excuse the pun) debate around the cost of energy. There is no doubt that the increased usage of heating systems has an increased cost associated with it. We should be aware that this cost can, in some cases, be catastrophic. Here we are not referring to the increases in our monthly bills but to the terrible cost of life associated with poorly maintained gas systems and the risk of carbon monoxide. To help combat this problem, the Health & Safety Executive has produced some guidance on their website:
